scotticize
\Scot"ti*cize\, v. t. To cause to become like the Scotch; to make Scottish. [R.]
I figured I might as well give the visitors to scottish eyes the benefit of a brief overview of me. There's not much to say, really - I'm not famous in any sort of way.
My name is James Addison. I grew up on a farm, approximately midway between Ottawa, Montreal and Cornwall, near the small town of Maxville (home of the Glengarry Highland Games, a fine Scottish festival). I lived in the same house my whole life, up until I went to Toronto to go to Seneca College to train in the arts of software development.
Following school, I became involved in the computer software industry - specifically, I became a software developer. I've worked for a few companies:
NetActive was based in Nepean, a suburb of Ottawa. I worked there for almost a year before being offered an opportunity in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, with ACD Systems. I stayed with ACD Systems for almost five years before going back to Ontario to work for McAfee, this time in Waterloo.
Shortly after coming back to Ontario, my father passed away. Needless to say, that hit my family and I very hard. Following a year long stint in Ontario, I moved back to Victoria, BC to work for a small software startup by the name of ParetoLogic.
I was developing software since late 1999, and while at McAfee, I was looking to move into a more expansive, encompassing role. I found that at ParetoLogic where I became a Project Manager. I have learned much in the time since I've arrived. However, I still have aspirations for something bigger...
I love to play the world's sport (football, otherwise known as soccer), cycle (mountain and road), hike, and camp. I have had the pleasure of visiting some of British Columbia's parks. I whole-heartedly advise any and all to plan a trip to the great outdoors in BC. I enjoy the outdoors, even though I am pathetic at actually getting out to visit our nation's parks.
I've cycled through a part the Canadian Rocky Mountains - an amazing trip with a close friend of mine - we were closer at the time, I suppose. You know who you are.
